NEW DELHI: Elections to 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats throughout 9 states will likely be held on September 3, the Election Commission mentioned on Wednesday. The final date for withdrawal of nominations is August 26-27.
Ten of the seats fell vacant after the sitting members, together with Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, had been elected to the Lok Sabha. Two seats had been left vacant after the members resigned.
Out of the 12 seats, 2 every are from Assam, Bihar, and Maharashtra; and 1 every from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha.
