This Uttarakhand faculty bars married woman’s entry to ‘save its setting’ | India Information

ALMORA: A 19-year-old scholar of sophistication XI, was denied permission to attend courses at an inter faculty in Almora after her marriage, with the varsity citing “insurance policies in opposition to married college students” for the choice.
The college authorities stated “permitting a married girl to sit down within the classroom would disrupt the varsity’s setting” and recommended that she proceed her schooling privately.
Simran, a resident of Niyaz Ganj space, had been finding out in Anand Singh Authorities Women’ Inter Faculty since class 8. After her wedding ceremony on July 28, when she returned to highschool, she was not allowed to sit down within the classroom. Regardless of repeated pleas by her household, the varsity administration remained steadfast in its determination.
College principal Vijaya Pant, when queried by TOI, stated, “It’s the primary time {that a} married scholar needs to attend courses. The college’s rules don’t allow admission of married college students since it will have an effect on different college students. Nonetheless, after contemplating her request, we advised her that if larger authorities grant permission, she can be allowed to attend courses.”
Simran wrote a letter to the chief schooling officer of Almora, Amba Balodi, on August 6. In her letter, she highlighted “the contradiction between the government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme and her present predicament of being denied schooling”. When TOI contacted Balodi, she acknowledged there was no rule that prevented a married scholar from attending courses.
