In a significant move to give a facelift to Delhi’s iconic Pragati Maidan, the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) has inked a deal with a leading construction firm to undertake the ₹8,000 crore revamp project. The ambitious initiative aims to transform the exhibition complex into a world-class exhibition and convention center, boosting the national capital’s infrastructure and economy.
According to sources, the construction firm, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has been awarded the contract to execute the project, which is expected to be completed within the next three years. The revamped Pragati Maidan will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a modern exhibition center, a convention center, and a hotel, spread over an area of approximately 123 acres.
The project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region. “The revamp of Pragati Maidan is a crucial step towards positioning Delhi as a global hub for trade and commerce,” said a senior ITPO official. “The new complex will not only enhance the city’s infrastructure but also provide a platform for Indian businesses to showcase their products and services to a global audience.”
The ITPO has been working tirelessly to revamp the complex, which has been a hub for trade exhibitions and events in the country for decades. The organization has already completed the first phase of the project, which included the construction of a new exhibition hall and a parking facility.
The revamp project has been in the pipeline for several years, with the ITPO facing several hurdles, including delays in land acquisition and environmental clearances. However, with the signing of the deal with L&T, the project is now back on track, and work is expected to commence soon.
